Ambassadors

Greet and give navigational support to our patients, staff and visitors. Must have a warm, outgoing personality and be able to stand for several hours. 

Ages 14 and up

Daily: 8am to 12pm, 12pm to 4pm, 4pm to 8pm

 

Carding Hands

Sew Teddy bears, heart-shaped pillows or blankets for various departments.

Off-Site remote work. Times flexible.

Clerical Support

Help staff with filing, photocopying and collating. Run errands as needed.

Emergency Department

Help staff with stocking supplies, running errands, prepping room, and checking in to offer support to our patients and their families.

Must be 18 years or older. 

Location: Santa Barbara, Goleta Valley, or Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital

Daily: 8am to 12pm, 12pm to 4pm, 4pm to 8pm, 8pm to 12am.

 

Endoscopy Department

Help staff with stocking supplies, running errands, prepping room, and offering support to our patients and their families.

Must be 18 years or older.

Monday through Friday: 10am to 2pm

 

Infusion Suite

Help staff with stocking supplies, running errands, prepping rooms, and checking in to offer support to our patients and their families.

Must be 18 years or older. 

Location: Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital 

Monday through Friday; 8am to 12pm, 2pm to 6pm 

Sundays and Saturdays; 9am to 1pm, 1pm to 5pm

Med. Surg. And Adult Critical Care Inpatient Unit Check in with staff for any immediate tasks, restock supplies, run errands as requested, help with transporting/discharging patients.

Units Include: Orthopedics, Neurology, Pulmonary Renal, Trauma, Medical Intensive Care Unit, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Oncology, Telemetry Box Pick-Up

Neonatal ICU Help staff with stocking supplies, running errands, prepping rooms, and checking in to offer support to patients and their families.

Pathology

Provide assistance to pathologists and other personnel conducting daily activities in the department of anatomic pathology.

Monday through Friday; 8am to 12pm, 12pm to 4pm

Patient SIM Lab Act in the role of a patient or family member in simulation scenarios with Cottage Health Staff (nurses and physicians). 

Must be 18 years and older.

Hours vary based on class needs.

Patient Transportation Department Help deliver patients or supplies to the patient floors and treatment areas.

Location: Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital

Weekdays 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Weekends 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Pediatrics Child Life

Volunteers are untilized to supervise playroom/teen rooms/outdoor terrace activities, while interacting with patients and families. Volunteers will also assist Child Life staff with escorting patients to and from the rooms and interacting with patients at bedside.

Pet Assisted Therapy Bring comfort and cheer to patients by visiting with your dog. To take part, your dog must be well behaved and certified by Alliance of Therapy Dogs

One weekly shift of one hour. Flexible times.

Pyschiatry and Addiction Medicine

Display excellent customer services skills, welcoming visitors. Assist visitors with directions and information. Perform clerical projects as requested. 

Monday through Thursday; 8:30am to 12:30pm or 12:30pm to 4:30pm

 

Reading Cart

Distributing reading material, puzzles, art material to patients and visitor areas.

Ages 14 and up

Daily: 4pm to 7pm

 

Spiritual Care

Provide patients, their family, staff, volunteers, and physicians with spiritually supportive presence, including but not limited to, requested prayer and faith-based rituals, as well as active listening.

Location: Santa Barbara, Goleta Valley, or Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital

Days and times flexible.

 

Pre/Post Surgery Department

Help staff with stocking supplies, running errands, prepping room, and offering support to patients and their families.

 

Must be 18 years or older. 

 

Monday to Fridays: 6am to 10am, 12pm to 4pm, 4pm to 8pm

 

Surgery Scrub Distribution Help staff supplying and distributing scrubs, running errands and performing special projects as requested. Act as a patient escort for discharged or tranferring patients.

Must be 18 years or older.

Location: Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital

Monday through Friday; 6am to 10am, 10am to 2pm

Surgery Waiting Area

Serve as a liaison between families in waiting area and clinical staff in patient recovery room. 

Must be 18 years or older. 

Location: Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Monday to Friday: 8am-12pm, 12pm-4pm

Therapy Services

Help Physical and/or Occupational Therapy staff with a variety of tasks including observation, games, patient transport, equipment retrieval, wheelchair assist during ambulation training and assisting the rehabilitation aide.

Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital in Santa Barbara.

4 hour shift; Days flexible.

Junior Wheelchair Camp (Summer Only) Help campers perform activities alongside staff from Cottage Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Santa Barbara.

Located at UCSB campus.

8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for week long program in summer.
